Trading Standards Warning - Roofing

Warning
Rogue Traders are currently cold calling in the Waterlooville and surrounding area of Hampshire offering to conduct roofing repairs, such as cleaning and resealing.
Information collated thus far would indicate that prices initially quoted are often increased before completion of the work to a level which is grossly inflated. Furthermore, the trader is not complying with the law by providing the home-owner with a written Cancellation Notice which explains their legal right to cancel the contract within 7 days.
Trading Standards would advise consumers not to agree to work that is instigated as a result of a cold call or via a leaflet drop. Consumers should obtain at least 3 written quotes from reputable businesses or traders who are either members of the Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Buy With Confidence Scheme or a recognised trade association.
Members of the Buy With Confidence scheme are fully audited to ensure their trading practices are legal, honest and fair. All members have been checked for trustworthiness and compliance with consumer protection laws. Traders who agree work at the home of an individual or at a place other than their usual business premises are required by law to provide consumers with a Notice of Right to Cancel, which gives consumers a 7 day cooling off period. Work should not commence until this period has ended, unless written agreement is obtained from that consumer beforehand.

The doctors have also asked that anyone getting repeat prescriptions should only get what they need. Anything returned to the chemist later cannot be reused and is costed against the surgery budget.

Village Newsletter

The Parish council publishes a newsletter three times per year. it is printed and distributed to all houses in the Parish.
We really need new content for the newsletter! What we are looking for is:
- Information about clubs and societies in the village, and any activities you have happening during the next few months;
- Information about interesting events that have happened recently.
Articles need not be large - half a page of text including a photograph would be great. Please contact any Parish Council member if you have any material to offer!

We have added a section on the website for events in the village. It can be found from the menu under "Clanfield Village" then "Events in the village".
Did you arrange, or attend, an event in the village? Would you like to write a report for ther website? What we need is a short, simple report: ideally with a few photographs. Email us the details and we can add them to the website. Photographs will need to be around 500 pixels wide, but we can resize them if needed.
