scout hut competition: votes required!
Written by Administrator Tuesday, 02 March 2010 21:55
An appeal by Clanfield Scout group:
Can we please ask you if you will cast a vote in our favour and support us in our bid to win £10,000 in the Community Award Section of a National Competition?
Projects entered into this competition had to be seen to be aware of the environment around us and be taking steps to improve the environmental impact. Our “Scout Hut” was burnt down in an arson attack in February 2006, the building was used by all of the local community including Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Sunday school and a preschool. We have worked extremely hard to raise funds for a new building which is nearing completion. It has been built totally with the environment in mind and to this end has a Ground Source heat pump to heat the building and Rainwater recycling to flush toilets. The last environmental item to be included on our “wish list” is the installation of two solar panels – one to heat the water and the other to generate electricity which will feed our headquarters and surplus electricity will be fed into the national grid.
Our “eco friendly” scout headquarters is one of 5 shortlisted nationally, to win this competition! The sponsors of this competition (Hill and Knowlton) have made a film about our project and that of the other 4 projects shortlisted with us.Our film is on the Organiser’s website www.futurefriendly.co.uk/awards/entries/scouts/ during the whole of March, where you will be able to view it (and those of the other 4 shortlisted) and then cast your vote.
The winning project will be determined by the number of votes that it receives and the result will be announced on the 8th April. Please visit the website during March and cast your vote in favour of the 1st Clanfield Scout Group and help us to win that £10,000 which will enable us to install those solar panels and complete our “wish list”.
If you have relatives, friends, neighbours and work colleagues (here in England or abroad) who you think would be willing to help us please feel free to pass on these details.
WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR VOTES!

Green Lane - Stop Press!
Just as we are going to print the news has come through that the developers have withdrawn the Planning Application for the Care / Nursing home at the Green Lane development. Our thanks go to all villagers who supported the Parish Council’s objection.
The Parish Council's response to the outline planning application can be seen here .

We have added a section on the website for events in the village. It can be found from the menu under "Clanfield Village" then "Events in the village".
Did you arrange, or attend, an event in the village? Would you like to write a report for ther website? What we need is a short, simple report: ideally with a few photographs. Email us the details and we can add them to the website. Photographs will need to be around 500 pixels wide, but we can resize them if needed.
Clanfield Memorial Hall

You may have heard that the Memorial Hall in South Lane has some problems with its roof. The Memorial Hall has no connection to the Parish Council, and is operated by its Trustees.
The problems with the roof are structural, and a significant repair programme will be involved. That can only begin after the necessary funds have been raised, a matter upon which the Trustees are currently focused.
For information about progress, a website has been set up. Please click here for more information.
