WW2 BOMBER CRASH
In 1944 a Halifax bomber crashed into Windmill hill. The plane had been flying from England and been dropping bombs on the French coast had probably been shot at and had lost its direction, but it had made it to Crawley. The crew bailed out at Crawley to make sure they did not crash. The plane however kept on flying until it reached Windmill hill.

For years there was a massive hole or crater, and the farmer never filled it in. Only very recently the farmer got some soil and filled in the hole. Even today there is still a hole but you have to know where to look.
