The NEW Clanfield Scout Hut, February 2010
Nearly there! How many times have we said that!
Well it’s a fact, take a walk or drive down Little Hyden Lane in Clanfield and you will be in for a surprise! 4 years to the month, when it was burned down in an arson attack, the building itself is now finished. It was handed over from Wilding and Butler in early January. They have done a fantastic job and have been really helpful. Local volunteers have been brilliant, decorator Trevor Richards and his Son Andrew have painted all the interior for us at no charge, John Edwards and his brother Nigel have tiled the kitchen and the boys toilets and are in the process of tiling the girls toilets. Richard Barker has volunteered to do the plumbing. Richard Sweeting of Viscount Kitchens has offered to supply and fit the wall cupboards in the kitchen.
So far so good. Unfortunately we still need the flooring, all the fittings for the boys and girls toilets, (sinks, toilets, cubicles etc), the car park and paddock need levelling and we would still like to fit solar panels to complete our lovely “green building”. On top of that, we just failed to get a grant for the tables and chairs. Any help, financial, skilled (in particular a carpenter), or contacts, or time, would be gratefully appreciated.
The ground source heating is already working and really efficient, the rain water recycling is waiting to be connected to the toilets (which we are still awaiting!)
Which leads me on to; we still need help and funds. To this end we are repeating the successful clothing and shoe collection.
WE NEED any unwanted Adults or Children’s lightweight clothing and shoes (in pairs and in bin liners), for which we receive 40p per kilo. The clothing and shoes are sent to Africa, hence no coats or heavy clothing.
Drop off point is 6 Farm View Ave, Clanfield, between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th March.

A second snowfall!
Last Updated on Friday, 08 January 2010 10:31 Written by Administrator Wednesday, 06 January 2010 17:21
5th January 2010; the second major snowfall of this winter, and causing a lot of disruption in the village this time. With the local schools closed, the A3(M) closed and the village all but inaccessible for a while, this is certainly not the "snow flurries" predicted in the weather forecasts. Indeed the BBC weather feed on the website front page was, on Tuesday afternoon, still predicting no snow till Wednesday.
When the snow came came, it came quickly: it settled within 30 minutes. This is possibly why so many people were caught out. A lot of effort today has gone into re-opening roads and retrieving abandoned cars and buses. A big thank you goes to all those who have been involved in the clear-up.

There are now a lot of snowmen around the village. Many have been made in pairs or family groups - such is the amount of snow available. (In our case it was because the head was too big and became a second body!). Following a poll on this website, the two snowmen at the pond have been named "Frosty and Icicle".
There are photos of snow scenes from around the village in an album.
Village events

We have added a section on the website for events in the village. It can be found from the menu under "Clanfield Village" then "Events in the village".
Did you arrange, or attend, an event in the village? Would you like to write a report for ther website? What we need is a short, simple report: ideally with a few photographs. Email us the details and we can add them to the website. Photographs will need to be around 500 pixels wide, but we can resize them if needed.
Clanfield Memorial Hall
Last Updated on Thursday, 05 November 2009 23:14 Written by Administrator Thursday, 05 November 2009 22:01
You may have heard that the Memorial Hall in South Lane has some problems with its roof. The Memorial Hall has no connection to the Parish Council, and is operated by its Trustees.
The problems with the roof are structural, and a significant repair programme will be involved. That can only begin after the necessary funds have been raised, a matter upon which the Trustees are currently focused.
For information about progress, a website has been set up. Please click here for more information.
