The Scout Group’s wooden scout headquarters was burned down by vandals in 2006, but after 4 years of hard fund-raising the new brick and block building is now in the process of being finished. The Scouts strive to lead by example – the new building is heated by a ground source pump heating system, they use a rainwater harvesting system for flushing toilets and they hope to install two solar panels – one for generating electricity and the other for heating the water. When the building is complete, the surrounding paddock will be restored to continue scouting activities and community outdoor activities, and it is hoped that the paddock and the indoor disabled facilities will also encourage the use of the building and grounds for people with special needs.

The Scout Group were one of 4 shortlisted in a national online vote during March this year and would like to say a big THANKYOU to everyone who voted for them. The £10,000 prize will go towards the cost of the solar panels.
