HORNDEAN DIVISION
Clanfield falls within the Horndean Division of GirlGuiding UK. The area covered by Horndean Division extends from Rowlands Castle through Horndean, Cowplain, Hart Plain, Lovedean, Catherington and Clanfield. For any units in the Division we have a central waiting list held by a co-ordinator.
Any girls wanting to join Guiding in the area should email who will return your contact and place girls on the appropriate lists.
In Clanfield at the moment Guiding consists of :-
1 Rainbow Unit for girls aged between 5 and 7 years which runs on a Monday evening.
2 Brownie Packs for girls aged 7-10 years which run on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
Girlguiding UK believes in the value of learning by doing. This is put into practice through a Method with five interlinking elements, known as the Five Essentials of guiding:
-
working together in small groups
-
encouraging self-government and decision making
-
a balanced and varied programme
-
caring for the individual
-
sharing a commitment to a common standard
The Guiding Method is delivered to young members grouped by age into four sections: Rainbow Guides, Brownie Guides, Guides and Senior Section members. Its principles apply to all members, including adults.
Unfortunately we do not have any Guide units (10 - 14 years) running at present in Clanfield due to lack of adult leaders, however, we hope that will change in the future as we currently have a leader recruitment drive underway with publicity in local papers, posters etc.
Girlguiding UK is the United Kingdom's largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women, with about 575,000 members including about 65,000 trained volunteer adult Leaders
If any adults wish to know more about Guiding or would like to learn about becoming an Adult Leader please contact:- Mrs Helen Phelan, Horndean Division Commissioner on 02392 594930 or email.
